Table and Chair Set, Day 3

We tinted some white primer with black, blue and green craft paint, and then applied a thin cost to the table top and let it dry. Then, we sanded off some of the paint on the edges and here and there on the top.

Then, we applied a few generous coats of stain over the entire table top.

Beautiful distressed, antique effect!

The next step was to remove the seats, sand the wood, and repair any defects with wood filler and wood glue:

Here are some "before" photos of the table and chair set we are working on. There are only 5 chairs, rather than six, so I believe there must have originally been 2 with arms (heads of the table?) and 4 without. Pushed up against the wall in an eat-in kitchen this will certainly work for someone who is tight on space.  The set is made of good solid wood and the construction is sturdy, but the seat covers are a wreck and the table had lots of water stains. It is all in need of a little sanding and painting or staining.
